Hurricane Harvey: 10 Ways YOU Can Help Now

Looking for ways to help following Hurricane Harvey? This Houston wall says it all.

If you are local to the greater Houston area:

  1. Organize resources you have in your neighborhood, congregation or community.
  2. IF IT IS SAFE, be a neighbor and help a neighbor over the next 48 hours. Help your neighborhood. Gather people for prayer and comfort. Feed people if you have food. Hold a potluck. Let people charge their phones. There are many, many ways you can be a compassionate neighbor to those around you.
  3. As long as the path is dry and safe, many local organizations need strong hands and willing hearts. See this list (there's something for everyone!) from the Houston Chronicle.

Wherever you live, you can:

  1. Help kids.
  2. Help animals.
  3. Help people with medical needs.
  4. Help farmers.
  5. Help the homeless.
  6. Help the displaced.
  7. Donate blood.

There are so many more ways to help, but hopefully this gives you a good start! And consider making outreach part of your routine even when the storms have settled and the waters receded.

With thanks for resources from Bishop Doyle of the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, Texas Monthly and the Houston Chronicle.
