My Bowl Season Winner - Land O' Lakes TV Spot: The Farmer

"He's partner with the sky and earth" - The Farmer by Amelia E. Barr

God bless the man who sows the wheat,
Who finds us milk and fruit and meat;
May his purse be heavy, his heart be light,
His cattle and corn and all go right;
God bless the seeds his hands let fall,
For the farmer he must feed us all.
— from The Farmer by Amelia E. Barr

'Tis the season for bowl games. 41 if you're keeping count. And while the various plays have begun to dissolve into a barely remembered collision of  motion and noise, one very quiet tv spot stands out.

Land O' Lakes' new ad, "The Farmer," is unexpected during a college football game. It's an earnest, contemplative pause. It's about farming. And it features stanzas from a poem written by Amelia E. Barr, a British novelist who died nearly 100 years ago.

Those stanzas are gorgeous, but they are more than matched by evocative music, a perfect voiceover and truly exceptional visuals, elevating the entire concept. Kudos to the whole team.

Here's the spot:

Here's the poem in its entirety: The Farmer by Amelia Barr

And here's a little bit of background on how it came to be from an SF blog post by Jessie Scott at Agriculture.com.
