Celebrate Every Victory, and More Inspiration from #SCBWIATX16
“Celebrate every victory.”
On Saturday, I was nominated as a finalist for the Cynthia Leitich Smith Writing Mentor Award. I am gobsmacked. This region is TEEMING with incredible writers, so this is almost too much to take in. BUT. Approximately three hours before the announcement, Cynthia gave me the above advice, and you can bet I'm going to follow it.
This conference, like the most serendipitous meetings of people, delivered the exact inspiration I needed at precisely the moment I needed it in completely unpredictable forms.
So as I try to take in all that I learned, I celebrate the victory of a really incredible two days with people who geek out about all the things that I do. And if you weren't able to join us, I leave you with a few of the quotes that moved me most. And I mean moved me - Will Alexander's insights made me cry.
“Every good manuscript finds a home.”
“Stories should be linear. Writing doesn’t have to be.”
“If stories prepared you for life, then life prepared you to tell stories.”
“Drafting is rehearsal. Don’t let your internal editor treat a rehearsal like a performance.”
“Don’t be afraid to start over.”
“Be brave enough to try something new.”
“Find joy in what you love.”
